Raffaele Oriani

Director pursuant to the combined provisions of the By-Laws, Ministerial Decree 169/2020, Italian Legislative Decree 58/1998 (Consolidated Law on Finance) and the Corporate Governance Code
Raffaele Oriani has served as an independent director of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena since April 2024.
He holds a degree in Economics and Business from LUISS Guido Carli University in Rome and a PhD in Business Administration from the University of Bologna. He has also been a Visiting Scholar at the Department of Economics, University of California, Berkeley, and a Research Fellow at the Study Centre of the Bank of Italy.
From 2006 to 2015, he was an Associate Professor of Corporate Finance at LUISS Guido Carli University in Rome, Department of Business and Management, where he was also Director of the Master’s in Corporate Finance from 2017 to 2021. He has held important academic positions including Director of the European Investment Bank- funded project "Economic Valuation of Patents" (EVPAT), Director of the Executive Master’s in Finance and Markets, Director of the Master’s in Corporate Finance and Banking and Director of the MBA programmes at LUISS Business School. Previously, from 2002 to 2006 he was an academic researcher at the University of Bologna.
He served on the Board of Directors of Principia SGR S.p.A from 2013 to 2015 and on the Board of Directors of ASR Media and Branding of A.S. Roma Group from 2020 to 2023.
He specialises in company valuations and extraordinary financial transactions.
He is the author of numerous publications on key topics in economics, finance and business management, including books on company valuation and technological innovation, as well as articles in leading international academic journals.
Mr. Oriani is currently Dean of LUISS Business School and Full Professor of Corporate Finance at LUISS Guido Carli University in Rome. He is also a member of the Investment Committee of the Cicerone Real Estate Fund of Cassa Forense and serves on the Advisory Board of Southampton Business School, University of Southampton.
