Director pursuant to the combined provisions of the By-Laws, Ministerial Decree 169/2020, Italian Legislative Decree 58/1998 (Consolidated Law on Finance) and the Corporate Governance Code

Paola Lucantoni has been an independent Director of Banca Monte dei Paschi since April 2023, where she is also a member of the Risk and Sustainability Committee.

On 30 May 2023 she was appointed to the Board of the Italian Banking Association (ABI).

She has been an Associate Professor of Financial Market Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Rome Tor Vergata since 2017, and a Professor of Financial Market Law and Regulation at the Faculty of Economics and Finance of Luiss - Guido Carli since 2012.

She is qualified as full professor in Business Law (ASN 2018-2020).

From 30 October 2018 to 30 October 2021, she was Academic Senator, representative of the macro-area of Law of the Academic Senate of Tor Vergata.

From September 2016 to June 2017, she was a visiting fellow at the London School of Economics’ Department of Law.
From 2007 to 2017 she was a researcher in Economic Law at the Department of Private Law of the University of Rome Tor Vergata.

She holds a PhD in Business Law from Rome’s La Sapienza University.

She graduated cum laude in Economics and Business and in Law and is a member of the Order of Lawyers, Chartered Accountants and Auditors. 

She is Italian member of the Scientific Committee of the European Society for Banking and Financial Law and is on the editorial boards of a number of Law Reviews. She is the author of two books and over 70 publications, including international ones, on banking, corporate and financial market issues. 

From 2016 to 2020 she was Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Assicurazioni di Roma (AdiR). From April 2021 to April 2023, she was a standing auditor of the Board of Statutory Auditors of Banca di Credito Cooperativo di Roma, Iccrea Group.
