Nicola Maione

Nicola Maione has served as an independent Director on the Board of Directors of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena since 2017 and has been reappointed for four consecutive terms. In his current term, he also serves as a member of the Related Party Transactions Committee and of the 231 Supervisory Body.

He served as Chair of Banca MPS from 2023 to 2026. He was also a member of the Remuneration Committee and of the Related Party Transactions Committee from 2017 to 2020. From 2020 to April 2023, he served as Chair of the Nomination Committee, as well as a member of the 231 Supervisory Body and Lead Independent Director.

Since 2018, he has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Banking Association (ABI), and since May 2023 has also served as a member of its Executive Committee and as Deputy Chair. Since November 2024, he has additionally held the position of Chair of ABI’s ESG Technical Committee.

He has been a member of the Corporate Governance Committee of Borsa Italiana and a member of the Assonime Governing Council since June 2023.

Since 20 May 2025, he has served as Chair of the Board of Directors of AXA MPS Vita S.p.A. and AXA MPS Danni S.p.A.

He is a lawyer and founder of the law firm Studio Legale Maione in Rome, which specialises in civil and commercial law.

He has acted as legal counsel in major corporate restructuring transactions, insolvency proceedings, and for corporate groups under extraordinary administration.

He has been appointed by the Bankruptcy Court of Rome as Insolvency Trustee, Judicial Liquidator and Judicial Commissioner in several proceedings and, by the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT) and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) as Government Commissioner, Judicial Commissioner, and Liquidator of cooperative enterprises. Upon appointment by the MIT, he also serves as Chair of the Supervisory Committees of several housing cooperatives.

He has extensive academic experience in the field of civil and commercial law and is the author of several publications.

In 2012, he received an award from the National Bar Council for his services to the legal profession.

He previously served on the Boards of Directors of Milano Assicurazioni S.p.A. and Prelios Credit Servicing S.p.A. and was Chair of the 231 Supervisory Body of several leading companies.

Mr. Maione is a former Chair of the Control, Risk and Related Parties Committee and former Chair of the Board of Directors of ENAV S.p.A.
