At today's meeting, the Board of Directors of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena S.p.A. took steps towards the replacement of directors Marco Turchi and Paola Demartini following their resignation on 18 September, by appointing David Martinez Guzman, founder and currently Chairman & CEO of Fintech Advisory Inc., and Roberto Isolani, member of the Global Management Committee (Strategic Committee) of the BTG Pactual Group, as non-independent directors.
David Martinez Guzman holds a degree in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, a degree in Philosophy from Rome's Università Gregoriana and an MBA from Harvard University. After having worked for Citibank, Mr. Martinez went on to found the company Fintech Inc. and, in just a few short years, gained recognition as a key player in the secondary market of public debt and emerging markets. Over the past 4 years, Mr. Martinez has invested in the corporate and government bonds of peripheral Eurozone member states and has taken part in the recapitalisation of systemic banks, including Piraes and Alpha in Greece and Sabadell in Spain. Mr. Martinez currently sits on the Boards of Directors of Alfa S.A., Vitro S.A. and Banco Sabadell.
Roberto Isolani graduated with honours from the University of La Sapienza in Rome. He is a member of BTH Pactual’s Global Management Committee and Head of International Client Coverage. Prior to joining BTG Pactual in April 2010, Mr. Isolani spent 17 years with UBS, during which time he covered a number of positions including Joint Head of Global Capital Markets, Head of Client Services Group, Head of Fixed Income and FX Global sales-forces, leading a team of 1000 people. During his time at UBS, Mr. Isolani also served as CEO and Board member of UBS Securities Italia Finanziaria and UBS Corporate Finance Italia and was a member of the Board of UBS Italia Sim. Along with the addition of Mr. Isolani and Mr. Martinez to the Board, the compositions of the Bank’s Committees have also changed. Mr. Isolani will take over Marco Turchi’s position on the Executive Committee, which will now be formed by Alessandro Profumo, Fabrizio Viola, Pietro Giovanni Corsa (currently the only Deputy Chairman), Alberto Giovanni Aleotti, Lorenzo Gorgoni and Roberto Isolani.
Both Mr. Isolani and Mr. Martinez will sit on the Audit and Risk Committee along with fellow members Marco Miccinesi, Pietro Giovanni Corsa and Daniele Discepolo. David Martinez will also sit on the Appointments and Remuneration Committee along with Marco Miccinesi, Angelo Dringoli, Pietro Giovanni Corsa and Lorenzo Gorgoni.
