Paolo Boccardelli

Director
Paolo Boccardelli has served as an Independent Director on the Board of Directors of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena since 15 April 2026. He also currently serves as Chair of the IT and Digitalisation Committee.
Since June 2024, he has been Rector and a member of the Board of Directors of Luiss Guido Carli University in Rome, where he has held a full professorship in Business Administration and Corporate Strategy since 2004. He is Chair (formerly Director) of the Strategic Change – Franco Fontana Research Centre at Luiss, which focuses on the impact of the digital and ESG transition on companies, industries, markets and society. From 2015 to 2022, he served as Director of Luiss Business School. In addition to leading the School, he held a number of executive roles, including Chief Executive Officer of Luiss Business School BV (2021), Chief Executive Officer of Amsterdam Fashion Academy BV (2020), and member of the Board of Directors of L.Com (a Luiss subsidiary subsequently rebranded as Luiss4Growth).
Since 2023, he has been Chair of BDV Consulting S.r.l. He has also served, since January 2026, as a member of the panel of experts within the Technical‑Scientific Committee of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and since May 2026 as a member of the committee responsible for defining a strategy on the use of artificial intelligence in the workplace within the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies’ Observatory on the adoption of AI systems.
He previously served as an Independent Director of Banco BPM (2023 – April 2026), where he also chaired the Related Party Transactions Committee. He has held board positions at UBI Banca (2019–2020), where he also chaired the Remuneration Committee; UBISS Scarl, the IT and services company of UBI Banca; TIM, where he chaired the Related Party Transactions Committee and served on the Control and Risk Committee; Advance SIM; Energee3 S.r.l.; and Replycare. From 2020 to 2023, he was Chair of the Supervisory Commission on Professional Football Clubs (Co.Vi.Soc.) and a member of the governance working group for the reform of the football system at the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). He also served as a Board Member and member of the Audit Committee and Innovation Committee of AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), US.
He has been a member of the EQUIS Committee and EFMD Advisor for Quality and Processes (EQUIS). He has also been a member of the Scientific Committee of the Digital Economy Centre and of the Scientific Committee of the Fondazione Lucio Papirio (with a focus on publications and research on credit-related topics), as well as a member of the International Advisory Board of the Universidad Pompeu Fabra – Barcelona School of Management. He has been a member of the Joint Evaluation Board of the Scuola Normale Superiore, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna and the University School for Advanced Studies Pavia. He served as Deputy Chair of the Steering and Supervisory Board of CUEIM (the University Consortium for Industrial and Managerial Economics) and was designated an Expert of International Standing by the Australian Research Council. He has also served as Chair of the Scientific Committee of the Lars Magnus Ericsson Foundation. Until 2020, he was a member of the International Advisory Board of the Amsterdam International Business School, and until January 2025 a member of the International Advisory Board of Leeds University Business School.
A frequent speaker at major international conferences (including the Strategic Management Society, Academy of Management, Continuous Innovation Network, EFMD and AACSB), he has authored numerous academic publications in the fields of strategy, innovation, digital and ICT, video entertainment and business model innovation. He contributed the entry “Creative Industries” to the Palgrave Dictionary of Strategic Management and authored the entries “Università” and “Commercio Internazionale” in the XI Appendix of the Treccani Encyclopaedia (2024–2025).
His awards include the Engaged Research Award (Luiss University, 2024), the Best Reviewer Award (Academy of Management, 2011), the Distinguished Paper Award (Academy of Management, 2010), and the Best Paper Award at the CINet (Continuous Innovation Network) International Conference (2009).
Mr. Boccardelli holds a degree in Economics and Business Administration from Luiss Guido Carli University of Rome and a PhD in Management (2000).
