Cesare Bisoni

Cesare Bisoni has been a Member of the Board of Directors of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena since 15 April 2026 and has served as Chairperson since 23 April 2026.

He is Professor Emeritus at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, where he was Full Professor of Economics of Financial Intermediaries, Chair of the Degree Programme in Business Administration and Director of CEFIN (Centre for Banking, Finance and Insurance Studies).

Since 2019, he has also been a member of the Board of Directors of the Marco Biagi University Foundation.

From 2019 to 2021, he was Chairperson of the Board of Directors of UniCredit S.p.A., where he had previously held the positions of Standing Auditor, Board Member and Deputy Chairperson. At UniCredit, he also served as Chairperson of the Related Parties Committee, and as a member of the Internal Controls and Risks Committee and the Corporate Governance, Nomination and Sustainability Committee. Within the UniCredit Group, from 2006 to 2010 he served as Deputy Chairperson of UniCredit Private Banking S.p.A. and UniCredit Corporate Banking S.p.A. During the same period, he was also a member of the Corporate Governance Committee of Borsa Italiana, the Market Operators and Investors Committee of CONSOB, and the European Financial Services Round Table.

From 2018 to 2021, he was a member of the Governing Council of the Italian Banking Association (ABI), where he served as Deputy Chairperson from 2019 to 2020.
From 2010 to 2016, he was Chairperson of the Italian Association of University Professors of Financial Intermediaries, Financial Markets and Corporate Finance (ADEIMF), and since 1982 he has been a member of the Management Committee of the European Association of University Teachers of Banking and Finance.

From 1996 to 2006, he was an Alternate Auditor of the Bank of Italy. 
Over the years, he has also held the role of Standing Auditor in several financial and insurance companies, including Cassa di Risparmio di Modena, Carimonte Banca, Banca Popolare di Rieti, CreditRolo Gestioni, Cierre Vita and CreditRas Vita. He has also served as Chairperson of Meta Modena Energia Territorio Ambiente S.p.A. and Blumet S.p.A., and as a Member of the Board of Directors of Promo, the DemoCenter Foundation and Profingest Management School, where he also served as a member of the Scientific Committee and Head of the Finance and Credit Area.

From 2019 to 2026, he was a member of the Advisory Board of Bologna Business School at the University of Bologna.
From 2003 to 2019, he served as Chair of the Supervisory Commission on Professional Football Clubs and of the UEFA Licensing First Instance Body of the Italian Football Federation.

Mr. Bisoni graduated in Economics and Business Administration from Bocconi University and completed the International Teachers Programme (ITP) at Harvard Business School. He is registered in the Register of Statutory Auditors.

He is the author of numerous publications focusing primarily on the bank–corporate relationship, as well as on the functioning of the financial system and the management of financial intermediaries, with particular emphasis on financial reporting, performance and governance.
